Find ICP companies from around the world with Vainu Global
After 8 years of focusing on companies in the Nordics, we’re happy to be launching Vainu Global, our global company database. Vainu Global is the easiest way to find ICP companies from all over the world without having to get multiple data vendors. Don’t just take our word for it; here’s what some of our beta testers who have been using our global data have said:
“For us to be effective in sales and marketing, the ability to identify and target SaaS companies is crucial. However, reliably finding SaaS companies isn’t easy to do at scale. Or, it wasn’t until we were introduced to Vainu Custom Industry (VCI) data, which helped us find thousands of new, relevant companies for our sales representatives to contact.”
Kaveh Rostampor, CEO at Planhat
“This is brilliant. Vainu Segments is exactly what we’ve been looking for. It allows us to prospect ICP companies in new markets at scale and automatically assign those opportunities for our SDR teams to reach out. The flexibility that Vainu provides when it comes to assigning companies and adding Tasks and Notes in HubSpot is very powerful.”
Andreas Ringstad, CMO at Pocketlaw
How can Vainu Global help me?
Instead of diving straight into the different features of the Vainu Global release (which we’ll be doing later in the blog), we’ll start by presenting some of the big pain points that you might be experiencing that Vainu Global can solve.
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes are not accurate and detailed enough for identifying ICP companies.
Admission: We often give Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes a bad rap, and it’s not always wholly deserved. While not believing that SIC codes are precise enough is a sentiment that we stand by, it’s important to acknowledge that not all businesses necessarily need extra granularity. For many businesses, SIC codes may very well be useful and allow the business to effectively identify their ICP companies.
However, the reason why we give SIC codes a bad rap is that, for most businesses, traditional industry data actually isn’t accurate or detailed enough to allow them to effectively identify and target ICP companies. And we might sometimes come off as a bit overzealous in our review of SIC codes because many businesses are not aware of this fact. They don’t realize that there is an alternative—let alone that the alternative is potentially a better one for them!
We’ve had companies put Vainu Global through its paces as beta testers, and we’re happy to report that we’ve yet to have any churn or unhappy beta testers. Now, the beta testers have all needed different things from our global data offering, but one element that the majority have used is Vainu Custom Industry (VCI) codes, our alternative to SIC codes. One beta tester had quite a specific ICP—SaaS B2B Human Resources companies—and they managed to find thousands of companies matching that profile simply by using VCI codes. Companies that would have been impossible to find at that scale using SIC codes.
I’m going to avoid the hard sell and instead leave you with this: If you’re not wholly satisfied with the results of using traditional industry codes, just know that you have an alternative.
It's difficult to find a premium company data vendor that does a good job within firmographics and web insights.
Premium company data vendors usually have a specialty. Some might boast that they have the best technology data, some might claim to have the most comprehensive firmographic data, while others state that they have the best coverage when it comes to contact data. And while that might make sense for the vendors—every company should have their own USP afterall—it can make it hard for buyers, who don’t necessarily have the budget to fund three separate data providers and consequently have to compromise on something.
Disclaimer: We don’t offer contact data. So, if that’s what you’re looking for in a data vendor, we’re not the one for you. However, if you’re looking for a combination of high-quality firmographic and website-based insights, we’ve got you covered. Our global data offering includes numerous important data points, such as location, industry, company size, technologies, website keywords, and website traffic, that, according to our customers who have tested several offerings, other vendors cannot provide at a similar quality.
HubSpot users organize their company data around web domains, which most data vendors don’t offer a solution for.
Manual data entry and invalid/incorrect data are two of the biggest headaches users experience when it comes to consistently using a CRM. Many businesses want to solve these problems for their employees’ sake (as well as their own) and will turn to the automatic enrichment of the key data points as their solution. This is also the case for HubSpot users.
A potential problem when implementing automatic data enrichment is the two systems, i.e., the company data provider and the CRM, organizing data differently. If the two systems do organize their data differently, e.g. one uses Business IDs and the other uses website URLs, it’s not the end of the world, but it does require more work to successfully merge the data streams.
HubSpot users organize company data around website URLs, which means that their company data provider should ideally do the same. We’ve typically organized our data around business IDs, but with Vainu Global, we organize data around website URLs, making it easy for HubSpot users to enrich their key firmographic data fields.
I have a very specific ICP that requires more than industry data.
When identifying an ideal customer profile (ICP), industry isn’t always enough. Many companies have very specific ICPs that require the use of other forms of data, such as website keyword search or website traffic, which was at the forefront of our minds when developing our global data offering.
We wanted to see how well our global data could handle very specific ICPs, so we made sure some of our beta testers had very specific ICPs. Using a combination of Vainu Custom Industry (VCI) codes and website-based insights, such as keyword search or web traffic, these beta testers were able to create lists that should contain ICP companies for them. The results varied, but what was generally noted was that we were able to provide higher quality lists than what had been seen from other providers. For many of our beta testers, we were able to consistently deliver lists with an accuracy of over 90% towards their ICP.
What’s actually being released with Vainu Global?
Now that we’ve talked through how Vainu Global can help you, let's get a little more concrete about what’s happening with this release.
New data points
Trying to find the right companies for your business can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Vainu Global is like a magnet: It finds all the right companies for you, so you don’t have to waste time sorting through hay.
Each company profile in our database comes with 23 well-defined data points, going from industry and company size to technologies, many of which being proprietary and unique to us. If you want to see the full list of data points available, click here.
New search platform
To accommodate our new way of identifying companies based on website URL rather than business ID, we had to create a new search platform separate from our original. Lovingly referred to as “Platform 2” in-house, this new platform is where users of Vainu Global will go when they want to create new target lists. Here are some of the things available to you on the platform:
- Filter the global database based on:
- Vainu Custom Industry label
- Company size
- Location
- Technologies
- Website Traffic
- Vainu Custom Industry confidence score
- And the other data points listed in this document
- Sort and target organizations based on their website popularity using the updated Vainu Score to allocate scarce resources wisely.
- Upload any company list to Vainu and enrich the companies with the data points you want to, e.g., for targeted sales and marketing campaigns.
- Select and rearrange the data points you want to include in your CSV exports.
A new HubSpot integration
With this launch, we are also introducing Vainu Connector for HubSpot, a pre-built HubSpot Connector for Vainu Global that makes getting Vainu Global’s data points into HubSpot CRM frictionless. This Connector matches companies based on their website URLs instead of the traditional business ID, which makes matching companies between our database and HubSpot CRM a much simpler process. If you want to know more about it, then check out this article.
Here’s what two of our beta testers had to say about the new Connector:
“Vainu's Connector for HubSpot is by far the best and most powerful CRM Connector I’ve seen. It was very easy to implement, and we had a 96% company match rate with the Vainu database right off the bat. After connecting our systems, I turned on Data Updates, and now our data will be kept up to date automatically. I recommend Vainu to all HubSpot main users who want to enrich and maintain their CRM data and make the entire experience painless.”
Alexander Ehrensvärd, Revenue Ops at Planhat
“We work with many enterprise-level HubSpot customers and, when implementing Vainu for one of our customers, their Connector for HubSpot provided an initial match rate of 99.55 %. Vainu provides our customers with several proprietary data points and also help us to keep our customer’s portal updated and clean, not to mention the benefits for segmentation and targeting for marketing purposes. We have already identified more than 3,000 companies that require an update based on their domain redirect information.”
Nail Bedretdin, Growth Marketing & Analytics at Valve
How do I get access to Vainu Global?

Quick final note: Vainu Global is not an add-on for existing products. It’s a separate product, and it will require a separate account. Also, the Vainu Global Connector cannot be used simultaneously as the Business ID Connector, so, if you’ve already got one in place, bear that in mind.
